Sunday Room Reset: A 30-Minute Weekly Routine

5 min read · RoomMaxx

A Sunday room reset is a once-a-week, 30-minute clean-and-prep of your bedroom so Monday starts in a calm room. You clear the week's clutter, wash or change the bedding, wipe the surfaces and set up the week ahead. It's bigger than a daily tidy and way smaller than a full deep clean, which is why a Sunday room reset is easy to keep doing.

If you want your reset to actually show up as progress, RoomMaxx scores your room before and after with a Room Score out of 100, so you can see Sunday's work in a number. Scan my room

What a Sunday reset is

Room reset meaning

"Room reset" is a term that took off on TikTok and YouTube: people film themselves taking a messy room back to its best state. A Sunday reset routine is the weekly version. It isn't about perfection. It's about putting the room back to a baseline you like.

Sunday reset vs daily tidy vs deep clean

Routine How long What it covers
Daily tidy 5 to 10 minutes Bed made, floor clear, cups out
Sunday room reset 30 minutes Laundry, sheets, surfaces, prep for the week
1 hour room reset 60 minutes Everything above plus closet, under the bed, vacuum
Deep clean Half a day Moving furniture, washing walls, sorting everything

This post is the 30-minute one. If you've got an hour, the bonus section at the end shows what to add.

What you need

Minutes 0-10: clear

Set the timer for 10 minutes and go fast. Don't organize yet, just clear.

  1. Trash first (2 minutes). Wrappers, receipts, empty bottles, old papers. All into the bag.
  2. Dishes out (1 minute). Every cup, plate and bowl goes to the kitchen.
  3. Clothes (4 minutes). Dirty into the basket. Clean ones folded or hung. Worn-once items on a hook, not the chair.
  4. Floor (3 minutes). Everything left on the floor goes back to where it lives. If it has no home, put it in one "decide later" box.

At the 10-minute mark the floor should be clear. That's the biggest visible change of the whole reset.

Minutes 10-20: laundry and bed

Strip and remake the bed

  1. Strip the sheets and pillowcases. Put them straight in the wash, or in the basket if laundry happens later.
  2. Open the window while the mattress is bare, to air it out.
  3. Put on fresh sheets. A spare set makes this fast.
  4. Shake out the duvet and lay it flat.
  5. Pillows up, throw folded at the foot.

Start the laundry

Get a load going now so it's done by the time you finish. If you share a machine, check when it's free.

Minutes 20-30: surfaces and prep

  1. Clear the desk (3 minutes). Put away everything that isn't for this week. Stack school stuff in one pile.
  2. Wipe surfaces (3 minutes). Desk, nightstand, shelf. Quick wipe, no scrubbing.
  3. Reset the light (1 minute). Turn off the overhead light and put your lamp back where it belongs. Swap a dead bulb if you've been ignoring it.
  4. Bag and backpack (2 minutes). Empty it, toss old papers, repack for Monday.
  5. Outfits (1 minute). Pick Monday's clothes and hang them up.

Timer goes off. You're done. Take a photo; it's satisfying to look back on.

The tricky part of any weekly reset is knowing if it's working. Was this Sunday better than last Sunday? It's hard to remember. RoomMaxx gives you a Room Score each time you rescan, keeps your score history and a streak, so you can see your resets adding up week after week. Scan my room

Plan the week

The "reset" part isn't only the room. A Sunday reset routine often includes a few minutes of planning, and your room is the best place to do it.

FAQ

What is a Sunday room reset?

It's a weekly routine where you clean and prep your bedroom for the week, usually in 30 to 60 minutes. You clear clutter, change the bedding, wipe surfaces and plan ahead.

What should be on a room reset checklist?

Trash out, dishes out, clothes put away, floor cleared, sheets changed, desk cleared and wiped, bag repacked and outfits picked for the next day. Add vacuuming and under-the-bed if you have an hour.

How long should a room reset take?

A weekly room reset can take 30 minutes if you do it every week. If it's been a while, give yourself an hour the first time, then it gets faster.

What does room reset mean on TikTok?

On TikTok, a room reset usually means a video of someone taking a messy room back to clean and organized, often sped up. The idea is the same as a weekly reset: return the room to its best everyday state.

Is a Sunday reset good for teens?

Yes, it's a simple way to start the week in a clear room without cleaning every day. Short, timed routines are easier to keep than big cleans.
